The Passing of Gönül Hürkuş Şarman, Daughter of Aviation Pioneer Vecihi Hürkuş

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gönül Hürkuş Şarman, the daughter of Vecihi Hürkuş, one of the legendary figures in Turkish aviation and a Kurtuluş War (War of Independence) pilot. She passed away on December 18, 2015, at the age of 91.

Born in 1924 in Izmir, Gönül Hürkuş Şarman was one of Vecihi Hürkuş's three daughters. She witnessed a significant moment in Turkish aviation history when the TUSAŞ-Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) named the Basic Training Aircraft HÜRKUŞ after her father and celebrated its first flight on August 29, 2013. She shared in the joy and excitement of this monumental event, making her presence even more meaningful to TUSAŞ.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of such a significant figure. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family.
