SIRIM BERHAD AND TURKISH AEROSPACE TO COLLABORATE IN AEROSPACE INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 NOV: SIRIM Berhad, leading technology and quality organisation today announced a partnership with Turkish Aerospace through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at fostering collaboration in developing Aerospace Industry ecosystem.

 

With the MoU, both parties will co-operate in areas related to conformity assessment, quality and standards development, research development and new technology innovations for aerospace industry.

 

SIRIM was represented by its President and Group Chief Executive Dato’ Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad while Muhammad Najmi Ibrahim, Director of Turkish Aerospace Malaysia, signed the agreement on the side-lines of the Selangor Aviation Show 2021. Also present were Dr Zanariah Ujang, SIRIM’s Vice President for Group Strategic Planning and Turkish Aerospace President and Chief Executive Officer Prof. Temel Kotil.

 

Turkish Aerospace is the leading aerospace and defence company and the centre of technology in design, development, manufacturing, integration of aerospace systems, modernisation and after sales support in Turkey. 

 

SIRIM and the Turkey’s leading aerospace and defence company for national aerospace research, among other things have identified solutions for building capabilities and competencies for SIRIM and Malaysian Aerospace industries; identify and develop Aerospace Industrial Standards and Conformity Assessment, Calibration; Inspection; Certification and Testing Services to increase efficiency and quality improvement.

 

SIRIM Berhad’s President and Group Chief Executive Dato’ Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said the MoU will also enable both parties to accelerate the deployment of any advanced technologies relating to Aerospace such as Drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

 

“SIRIM and Turkish Aerospace also hoped to develop International Strategic Technology Business Framework in relation to Aerospace Industries and identify total solution for implementation of Industrial 4.0 Smart Manufacturing project,” he said.

 

“We are also looking into developing local maintenance, repair and overhaul expertise for Aerospace Industries. Apart from that, SIRIM through our research arm will facilitate Research & Development processes with strategic industrial partnering for any new applications such as Advanced Material which include Nano Coating, Carbon Fiber and Polymer,” Ahmad Sabirin added.

 

Under the 12th Malaysia Plan, SIRIM will be leading the Aerospace Quality Management System Certification as part of the government’s efforts to develop the industry.

 

Turkish Aerospace President and Chief Executive Officer Prof. Temel Kotil said:

“We are glad to sign the first bilateral agreement between Turkish Aerospace and one of leading institution in Malaysia “SIRIM”. With this development, we aim to contribute to the catalyst of Malaysia's aerospace industry with the several joint projects that would be also benefit of both parties. As an important factor in the world aviation ecosystem, Turkish Aerospace will continue to contribute to the capabilities of the two countries in this field aerospace and defence industry.”
